“The power of the duck is incredible, after a bad crash the duck is still holding on”

I was sat on the front of the bike which was near the Ashton bus station lights, we doing about 30mph, slowing to 15, thinking the lights would turn red. Then it all went wrong. Four humans ran in front of him, and he swerved to miss one, only for another to step right back into him. The front end went out from under him, he slammed into the side of the bus, and his wheel got trapped between the bus’s back wheel. We quacked in alarm as he was thrown over, landing on his side.

Thankfully, Gerald had good safety gear. Most of the damage bounced off him, leaving only a sprained wing—well, wrist, to them humans—and he waddled off to college the next day.

We ducks checked in, quacking in relief that Gerald and his owner were okay. Some of us joked he was lucky enough to win the lottery; others noted fixing him might cost a nest of coins. Still, with new forks, yokes, and a wheel, he could rise again. Gerald talked about gathering panels, a tail, forks, a spare wheel, cheap lights, maybe even a spare engine—he could rebuild, but it wouldn’t be cheap.

He thanked us, the kind ducks who stopped to make sure he was safe. Only a sprained wing and some numbness, he said. The real shame? Gerald wouldn’t join the flock on their journey again. Buying a new bike was simply out of reach.

“It’s been a good four months with you all,” he said, giving a sad wave of his wing. “Enjoy waddling, and stay safe.”

Updates the bike is being resurected !!!
